Necklace lengths

Necklace lengths

I’ve been making jewellery for a long time and I know exactly which lengths of necklaces I like to wear so I’ve written this blog post to try and make it easier for you.

When it comes to necklaces, whether you’re after a pendant, a simple chain, or a layering piece, the right length can significantly impact your overall look.

Selecting the perfect necklace length goes beyond just appearance—it’s about finding the right balance in proportion, style, and what flatters your neckline and body shape.

I make my necklaces in a range of 16 inch, 18 inch or 20 inches.

16 inch. These necklaces will sit close to the base of your neck, usually resting just above your collarbone.

Both my Hammered and Paperclips Chains are available in 16 inches, as is my Bolt Necklace.

18inch.  This is the standard necklace length. It will sit just below the collarbone. If you were buying a necklace as a present, this is the length I would recommend as it is the most popular.

20inch. This length will sit between the collar bone and breast bone. It is perfect for layering with shorter necklaces.

Personally, I wear a combination of 18in and 20 inch necklaces most days. I find 16 inch necklaces a little tight but this is a very personal preference. In this picture, I am wearing 18inch Paperclip chain and 18 inch Bar Necklace and a 20 inch Charm Necklace with a teardrop and square on it.

If you like any of my necklaces but they are not the right length for you, then please get in touch, I am happy to adapt them for you.

I hope you all find this helpful!

Love Amy
